OSHA Violations Down in 2021
Recently the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released its Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety standards for 2021. The great news is that overall the number of inspections and violations issued in 2021 decreased from the prior year, and is the lowest number in at least five years. The
highest number of citations were issued for fall protection followed by respiratory protection and then ladders. Read more about the report here.

Code Development Update
The Public Review period for changes for the 2022 edition of ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators has closed. The A17 Standards Committee and working groups are preparing responses to comments. The 2022 edition is scheduled for publication in Q4 this year.
Committee Action Hearings for the proposed Group B updates to the 2024 I-Codes will be held in Rochester, NY, in March/April.Group B includes the existing building code, residential code, structural elements for the public building code, and the energy conservation code.Group A changes were completed last year.
The committee for the ICC A117.1 Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities has begun review of proposed revisions for the next cycle.Meetings are being held virtually every two weeks.The goal is to complete the work in time for publication at the end of 2023.
Recent Code Adoptions
Georgia published two amendments to new regulations adopted 1-1-2022.
Compliance with Requirement 3.10.12 of ASME 17.3 must be completed in three years (120-3-25-.15)
Updated the requirements for all equipment spaces on new private residence elevators (120-3-25-.20)
Pennsylvania adopted the 2018 I-Codes with some modifications and an effective date of 2-14-2022. The final version includes only the following sections from Chapter 30 on elevators:
3002.1 Hoistway enclosure protection.
3002.2 Number of elevator cars in a hoistway.
3002.4 Elevator car to accommodate ambulance stretcher.
3002.7 Common enclosure with stairway.
3004.2.1 Enclosure.
3004.3.1 Enclosure.
3005.4 Machine rooms, control rooms, machinery spaces, and control spaces.
